In January, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) published a proposal that targets the collection of pay data in annual reports submitted to it by employers in an effort to create a database of wage information that might be used to identify opportunities for achieving equal pay. 9-2017 is the proposed date that this initiative begin in the event that it is paseed.

Any type of employee discrimination is prohibited by law, and enforced by the EEOC. The EEOC obtained records in regards to differences in sex, race, and so on. This information is submitted annually by employers to the EEOC on a form called the EEO-1.If a privately owned business or a collection of federal contractors has over one hundred employees, it is suggested the the form also have pay info listed on it.
The fact that there is so little information regarding pay of employees, pay inequality isn’t noted very often. Typically, when an employee brings up that they feel they may be being paid unfairly, they are often ignored. By recording the data from numerous different lines of work, the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and the EEOC can help get rid of the discrimination.
This system could, potentially, elimate discrimination by other employers when they see what their pay practices look like.
The information is not publicly available. Instead, the EEOC would publish only aggregate pay data submitted by employers. The EEOC believes that this information would help employers determine whether or not they are paying employees fairly and consistently with industry and regional practices.
To deter employers from having unfair systems, this proposed plan will show employers where their gaps are, as far as pay goes, so they can fix them. Employers whose data demonstrate pay equality will likely publicly disclose that fact to win public approval and boost investor confidence.
